Alain has long learned

not to show himself too much.

To stand tall,

to remain discreet,

to move forward without making a sound.

On the paper, the lines remain visible.

Nothing is completely erased.

The pigments cling,

like certain parts of ourselves

that we keep inside.

Alain doesn't explain everything.

But those who look long enough

eventually understand.
