Explanation of the painting
Before, he was someone else.
Then he started sticking on masks. One after another.
He cut them, adjusted them, layered them.
Sometimes, he had to carve his own face with bare hands for them to fit.
This face was not built for him, but to please.
To meet expectations.
Those of people, critics, advertising, images seen on television.
He was sold an impossible ideal to reach.
So he transformed himself.
He modified his features, corrected his expressions, learned to speak as he was told.
Little by little, he no longer just wore the standards:
he imposed them on others.
He reproduced them, defended them, normalized them.
This face is the result of this forced adaptation.
A face fabricated to be accepted.
A face that forgot what it was before.
The face of an atypical person who had to adapt.
