Drugs are just another form of escape, a way for people to numb the pain of their superficial existence. States have therefore come together to regulate and impose prohibitions on them. Yet, cigarettes, alcohol, sugar, and all other addictive substances are allowed to us.
OxyContin, prescribed as a painkiller to 14 million patients per year, is responsible for approximately 130 deaths per day. Despite its well-documented addictive potential, it continues to be widely prescribed. Why? As always, money takes precedence over health.
Drugs sometimes become the last resort for broken men, ready to smear themselves with mud to try and close their gaping wounds, even at the cost of further infecting them. It is a sadness that we cannot heal, a suffering that escapes our hands. But let no one dare to play with this mud for mere amusement, for it is not a toy, but a consuming shadow.
