About the painting
A mother koala holds her baby close, clinging to a tree that now feels more like a last refuge than a home. Around them, the forest is disappearing. The trees fall one after another, leaving behind an empty landscape where these animals will soon have no place left.
The baby clings to its mother without really understanding what is disappearing. She, on the other hand, seems to know. Her eyes hold the quiet anxiety of those who watch their surroundings change with nowhere else to go.
Through this mother and her baby, the painting tells the story of deforestation through a nearly universal bond rather than through numbers: protecting your child when your own world becomes fragile.
This reflection extends to the very materials of the work. The painting is made partly from natural materials and pigments, as a way of connecting its subject to the way it was made and reminding us that nature is not only depicted: it is also part of the work.
