About the painting
I present to you Stéphane.
My fighting hen.
She stinks of blood.
Pieces of her sisters stuck in her feathers.
She doesn't even remember how she got there.
Perhaps the day she saw the others end up roasted.
Or as fried chicken.
I don't know anymore.
But she understood one simple thing:
She understood that her value ended with her usefulness.
So she panicked.
And in that chaos,
an instinct rose up.
violence...
She started attacking everything that moved.
And strangely... no one bothered her anymore.
Even the farmer left her alone.
She thought she was in control of something.
Hens become aggressive when they feel that their lives
depend only on someone else's choice.
They think it will save them.
It saves nothing.
Stéphane ended up as a chicken and mushroom gratin.
Very good.
With a slight bitter taste
that lingered at the back of the palate.
